History of Jaipur

Jaipur was built in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh-II and the city was planned by Vidhyadhar Bhattacharya, a Bengali architect. Built of pink stucco in imitation of sandstone, the city is a remarkable example of excellent architecture in pre-modern India.

The kingdom of Jaipur, formerly known as Jeypore, is said to have been founded in the eleventh century or 1097 by Dohaladeva, who hailed from Gwalior. They (he and his Kachawa kinsmen) had absorbed or driven out the local Meenas and Bargujjar Rajput Chiefs. The Meenas became a key ally to them. They shifted their original capital from Dausa to Jamwa Ramgarh and then to Amber after which they settled to the Jaipur city.

Jaipur, which means the city of victory, was designed in such manner that the people inside it are safe and sound. The Maharajas had developed world largest canon Jai Ban, though never used in a war, to safeguard its residents. They also had developed good relations with Mughal Empire. They also entered into subsidiary alliance with the British in 1818.

After Independence of India, Maharaja Sawai Man Singh-II acceded the state of Jaipur to the Government of India in 1948. The city then became the capital of Rajasthan state. After this city has seen lot of changes.

In the last decade city has seen a tremendous growth in the infrastructural facilities and due to these developments it has become a hot spot for investment. New areas are being developed along with all amenities as well as you can see the modern shopping concepts coming up through planned markets and Malls.
